Book Marketing
The Truth? The Market Is Crowded.
Over a million new books are published every single month. That’s a staggering number—and a major challenge for any author trying to stand out.
So how do you break through the noise and get your book noticed?
BOOK MARKETING BASICS
WHAT EXACTLY IS MARKETING?
It's sharing your product (your book) with the world. This is not the same as advertising. However, the two things often overlap. Advertising, such as paid ads, are a type of marketing. But there are many many ways to market that won't cost you a dime. Just your time.
WHERE DO I START?
The best place to start, once your book is written, edited, and ready for the world, is with a great BOOK COVER.
Your book cover is the first thing readers will see. If your cover is dull or looks like you made it yourself, your book will sell poorly. There is absolutely nothing wrong with making your own book cover, it just needs to look professional.
Start with searching online for other books in the exact same genre you write. This is where you will get the feel and look of exactly what a great cover should look like. Then decide for yourself if that's something you can undertake, or if you need to hire a professional. If you have no experience, I suggest you hire someone who has made some covers that you can check out first, to see if they align with what you are looking for.
BUILD AN AUTHOR WEBSITE
This is an important step. But if you are just starting out, you can skip this for now. It's more important to get your work out there.
